Pack containing 4 components : 

  • The bandage : to hold the cold or hot pack in place at the zone treated, 
  • The additional strap to position the pack on the shoulder, 
  • Bag that can be filled with ice cubes or hot water.
  • Reusable hot/cold gel pouch.

Indications

COLD : 

  • Treatment of mild injuries (contusions, twists, sprains, tears, pulls, etc.)
  • Pain reduction and control. 
  • Oedema and haematoma reduction.
  • Relief of joint fatigue. 


HOT : 

  • Treatment of muscle and joint pains and cramps. 
  • Relaxation and recovery after physical effort. 

Contraindications

  • Hot or Cold Therapy should not be used by individuals who are sensitive to temperature extremes, such as those with
    •  circulatory problems, 
    • diabetes, 
    • nerve damage, 
    • paralysis or 
    • sensitive skin 

except under the direct supervision of a Health Care Professional.

COLD COMPRESS THERAPY is medically recommended within the first 72 hours following most sprains, strains or minor injuries.

Freezing instructions and use of the Gel Pack

  • For 1st time use of product, place Gel Pack flat in freezer for 2 hours thereafter freeze for 30 minutes.
  • Remove cold Gel Pack from freezer and insert into pocket of bandage.
  • Apply to the bandage to the affected area for approximately 25 mintues, elevating the injury if possible. 
  • Remove the pack from the bandage and place it back in freezer for about 30 minutes.
  • Regularly check the skin for any discoloration or redness- discontinue treatment at once if this is observed.
  • Repeat 2 or 3 times for single treatment. Repeat treatment several times per day until pain or swelling subsides.

Never apply cold therapy longer than 30 minutes at a time.

 

HOT COMPRESS THERAPY should only be applied once swelling has subsided. The application of heat will help reduce pain, promote healing, and temporarily relieve minor joint pain, stiffness, muscle spasm, tension and cramps.

Microwave heating instructions and use of the Gel Pack

  • Gel Pack must be at room temperature before heating in microwave.
  • Place Gel Pack on a paper towel in the microwave by laying flat or fold in half.
  • Heat at full power (microwave ovens vary, follow recommendor approximately 1 minute.
  • Carefully check for desired temperature. 
    • If Gel Pack is too hot allow to cool before applying. 
    • If Gel Pack is not hot enough, microwave for additional 10 second intervals, until a safe and desired temperature is reached.
  • Knead Gel Pack to distribute heat evenly.
  • Place the gel pack in the pocket of the bandage and place on the injured area

Note:

  • Before removing Gel Pack from the microwave, carefully check the Gel Pack for any sign of possible rupture or leakage.
  • If any leakage is found simply wait for the Gel Pack to cool down before removing and discarding.

Discontinue heating if gel pack expands like a balloon. This means that the pack has overheated

Stove-top heating instructions and use of the Gel Pack

  • Bring 3.5 litres of water to a boil.
  • Remove water from heat source - never place Gel Pack in water while it is still being heated.
  • Immerse Gel Pack in hot water for 5-7 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the hot Gel Pack from water using kitchen tongs (do not use sharp utensils).
  • Towel dry.
  • Carefully check the Gel Pack for any signs of possible rupture or leakage (discard if pack leaks).
  • Carefully check for desired temperature. If Gel Pack is too hot allow to cool before applying.
  • Place the gel pack in the pocket of the bandage and place on the injured area

 

PRECAUTIONS

IMPROPER USE MAY CAUSE INJURY. (Carefully read all instructions and warnings before use.)

  • ADULT SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED. DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN TO HEAT GEL PACK WHILE UNSUPERVISED. Unattended use of Hot or Cold Gel Packs by children or incapacitate persons may be dangerous.
  • For external use only.
  • Do not puncture, tear or bite Gel Pack (discard if Gel Pack leaks).
  • Whether applying HOT or COLD Therapy, always use the gel pack in the bandage.
  • Excessive heating could cause skin burns, Gel Pack deterioration, and possible leakage. 
  • Never apply Cold Therapy directly to the skin as frostbite may occur - ensure that pack is not too cold.
  • Do not use Hot or Cold Gel Packs with Analgesic products (sports creams, balms, liniments or lotions).
  • Do not use over sensitive skin areas.
  • If skin is broken, treat wound and apply sterile bandage to the injury before applying the Cold/Hot pack.
  • Gel Packs contain Non-Toxic materials. 
    • If contents of the Gel Pack contact eyes, skin or clothing, flush with warm water. 
    • If any redness or irritation presists, consult physician. 
    • If contents are swallowed, give one or two glasses of water and induce vomiting and consult a physician.

Care instructions

  • Wash only with soapy water, without detergent or bleach.
  • Squeeze out excess water.
  • Dry away from heat sources.
